- Educational Background

Luis A. Aguirre received a PhD degree for research in identification, analysis and control of nonlinear dynamics in 1994 from the University of Sheffield, England. He also holds B.S. (1987) and M.S. (1990) degrees in Electrical Engineering, both from Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), Brazil.

- Employment History and Current Fields of Interest

In August 1995 he got a permanent position at the Department of Electronics Engineering at UFMG where he teaches and supervises research on various aspects of dynamical systems. His main areas of research include system identification, nonlinear signal processing, analysis and control of nonlinear dynamics and chaos. He has supervised several master and doctoral students in his fields of interest. He directs the MACSIN (Modelagem, Análise e Controle de Sistemas Não-Lineares) research group, which he founded in 1995. He is the author of the book Introdução à Identificação de Sistemas : Técnicas Lineares e Não-Lineares Aplicadas a Sistemas Reais published in Brazil (2007 – 3rd Edition). He served as the Editor in Chief of Enciclopédia de Automática (3 volume set), sponsored by the Brazilian Society of Automation (2007) of which he was the vice-president from 2004 to 2006.

- Professional Activities (Selected)

In the past, he served as a member of CA-EE (Comitê Acessor de Engenharia Elétrica) at CNPq and is currently the co-manager for the field of Electrical and Biomedical Engineering at CAPES.

In the past he served as member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Mathematical Control Science and Applications. He is currently a Editorial Board member of Dynamics of Continuous, Discrete and Impulsive Systems B. He is also the Regional Editor for Latin America a Caribbean of the International Journal of Modelling, Identification and Control, and is the Editor-in-Chief of Controle & Automação : Revista da Sociedade Brasileira de Automática.
